School: The Children’s Garden
Student: Parker Walter
Teacher: China
Age: 4
Subject: Gardening
Description: Garden Gifts! My interview of Parker about his garden is below (inspired by teacher China’s lessons about growing plants, the water
cycle and taking care of our earth) I’ve tried to capture his enthusiasm and excitement with all caps and italics…and yes
he really talks this way, ha!
Mom: Parker, what do you want to tell people about our garden you planted (he planted the entire thing!).
Parker: Oh, that we are making parsley, basil and carrots…LOTS of carrots. And Strawberries – they are already growing;
and Hudson PICKED a FLOWER mom. Oh…no that is NOT good.
Mom: What are we going to make with all these things?
Parker: Oh, we’re going to eat them ALL up! They are going to be so good…or I have a GREAT idea, we can make a recipe
out of those vegetables and spices and it will be SO EXTRA DELICIOUS!
Mom: Sounds good, bud. How do we take care of our garden?
Parker: Oh mom, you know it. But I’ll tell ya – we say “Good morning garden. Grow, grow, grow!”, we have to talk to it
to help it grow. And we have to make sure Hudson doesn’t pick the flowers, oh gosh that’s just terrible! I’ll show him
how – I won’t pick your garden flowers anymore mama, promise. That will help him to know not to pick the flowers on
our strawberries…OH! and sun and water too mom, like teacher China taught us.
