Description: John and his sister, Ellie, watched butterfly metamorphosis at home. On April 18th, we received two cups of tiny baby caterpillars. We watched daily as they ate and grew and eventually became chrysalides. We moved the chrysalides to a butterfly habitat and waited and waited and waited until one day, they emerged as butterflies!! All 10 of our baby caterpillars became butterflies! We fed them sugar water, oranges and watermelon until the daytime temps were above 55 degrees. Then, we watched as we set our butterflies free! Out of 10 butterflies, 7 flew away, Mother Nature had other plans for 2 and 1 is still hanging out with us for another day or two.
