Student: Cole Casatelli
Teacher: Uma Narayan and Gretchen Cox
Grade: 5th
Subject: Sport
Description: Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ). My name is Cole Casatelli and I have been studying BJJ for over two years. I really like BJJ because it has given me the confidence to stand up for myself in many situations. It is a gentle art that doesn't require you to hurt your opponent to gain control of the situation. My partner in this video is my younger sister who also studies BJJ. I chose to share this martial art because it involves exercise and in quarantine people have been less active. I hope this proves that you don't need a gym to be active, you can do it at home with a partner.

Subject: Woodworking
Description: I created a red and white shield out of wood and cardboard. I have been watching some youtube videos lately and I saw someone who made Captain America’s Wakandan Shield and that is what gave me the inspiration for making this. I made a shield that was the shape of the Wakandan Shield, but was not the same color or the same details. I started off with drawing the shape on a poster. After that, I traced it onto wood and we cut it out. Then I sanded it and painted it. I painted it red and white, with white being the main color. It took me three days to make it.
School: Parker Chase Preschool, Carrollton
Student: Jayden Grogan
Teacher: Marissa Kurrin
Grade: 5th
Subject: Science
Description: We did an experiment on germs and handwashing. We were talking about germs because of COVID 19 and Coronavirus. We know that dirty stuff makes your hands dirty. But how dirty? So we did an experiment. The first group of kids had dirty hands. The second group had clean hands. The first group touched a slice of bread and put it in a baggie. The second group touched another piece of bread and put it in another baggie. And one piece of bread was the control. We waited and the dirty hands bread got really disgusting and black because our hands weren’t clean. The clean hands bread had nothing growing on it. The control bread didn’t either. This showed us what could happen to your hands if you don’t wash them. Also that we spread germs from our hands to other things. And this is why we should wash our hands! (Also we had fun!) (Written by the students of Extended Care)

Subject: Upcycling
Description: I made a desk organizer. I got all my materials out of our recycling bin. Some of the materials I used were a granola bar box, part of a phone case box, a tea bag box, an egg carton, a cherry container and colored duct tape. I used the tea box for a pencil, crayon and marker holder. I used part of the phone case box to hold my stickers. I used a part of the egg carton as an eraser holder. The bar box is for small notebooks. The cherry container is for the phone holder. You can also put bookmarks there if you don’t have a phone. The tape makes it colorful and holds it together. I used all the items I was going to store in the organizer to measure and make sure everything fit. Once I measured everything I started shaping them and cutting them to the right height. I chose to do this project because it helps keep everything sorted on my desk. It makes it easier so that when I’m looking for something on my desk I know where to find it and I’m not looking around for it. I originally only had a place for books and markers but then wanted to keep adding space for my other things. I had fun because I thought about the idea and then made it into a real thing. Upcycling is fun because you can take multiple things and make it into one big thing.

School: Montessori at Vickery
Student: Anay Sharma
Teacher: Mrs M. Hughes
Grade: Kindergarten
Subject: Art
Description: This is one of the pictures I drew all by myself in my sketchbook. My sketchbook has many sketches that I draw from my imagination. This is a picture of a farm. The sun is rising and the farmer wakes up. Do you see him “yawn”? I drew a big red barn. On both sides of the barn, there are grassy fields. There are many small animals inside the barn (I just know it). The farmer has two cows and two horses. I made two mommy cows. I also drew a baby horse and its mommy. I sketched using a pencil and then used marker pens to color them. I love to color using markers as they are much brighter than crayons and color pencils. I also feel they are smoother than others and are not much messy like paint. I had super tip markers that I used to outline my sketch. I drew this because I love petting zoos in the farms. I like to watch the animals and also pet them.
School: Montessori Academy of Cincinnati
Student: Liz Orozco

School: Parker-Chase Preschool, Carrollton
Student: Hunter Grigsby and Madeline Clowers
Teacher: Brittney Demarest and Gabby Ramirez
Subject: Art
Description: Our babies felt the cool, wet, texture of paint on their hands and feet. The faces the babies make while feeling the paint is adorable-for some it is a great feeling, for others...their hands or toes curl up quickly. We use language and vocabulary when we are reading books to our babies and the animal sounds in Old McDonald are a wonderful reinforcement of rhythm tone, and repetition.

School: Montessori at Vickery

Age: 5
Subject: Art and Science
Description: I’m most proud of how my son adapted to the challenges of remote learning. In partnership with his teachers, I helped to teach him (and myself) what a proboscis is, that ladybugs have elytra as well as wings for flight, how to read long vowels, and how to learn in new and different ways. In the process, I learned as much or more than he did, and we are both the better for it. For one show and share his teachers did every Friday, we worked together to display the life cycle of a ladybug in Play-Doh (mine top and his the bottom row) - displaying once again the spirit of hands-on learning so helpful during this school year. Children this age are sponges, and it was so rewarding to get to see him learn in real-time.

Description: Both my husband and I are working from home, taking care of our 7 month old, and homeschooling a 6 year old part time (shared custody). Ms Kathy gave us the idea to make handprint art. We did not have paint, so We traced Nora’s hand during nap. A good nap is a win in itself most days. And her big brother colored the hands and helped glue. When Nora woke up she was in charge of measuring and hanging the picture, with help of her daddy. Since being home we have seen our daughter become interested in everything that we do. We try to involve her whenever possible in all of our everyday tasks. We miss her teachers and classroom dearly and we hope to be back soon.
School: Kiddie Country Learning Center
Student: Abigail Gordon
Teacher: Amelia Poll
Age: 3
Subject: Art
Description: The art pieces I have submitted are my small art gallery I have created during these last two months. I call it the Abigail Art Collection. These pieces were my inspiration that started with dots just like Vhasti, a character from one of my favorite books. The book is called The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. This book inspired me to make dots on an art canvas. This became one of my favorite things to do. I started with dots like Vhasti and have grown my art collection to a variety of different kinds. There are some with circles, a lot of colors, and even glitter! I share my favorite pieces with my friends and relatives and it makes me happy, kind of like the rainbow fish in the book Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Especially now during COVID-19 since painting is a way to keep busy and creative, and then share to make others feel happy.

Description: I made Dark Chocolate Nutty Bites. I love baking and trying different baking recipes. I read different recipes and try to make something with ingredients that are available at home and also find substitutes at home for ingredients that are not available to create a dessert. This teaches me measurements as well as to do experiment (with safe ingredients). I chose this recipe as I love dark chocolates (they have more health benefits than milk chocolates) and I also love almonds. School: Prep Academy Schools
Student: Anika Sonti
Teacher: Karen McGrover
Age: 4
Subject: Remote Learning
Description: Anika started solving sudoku puzzles when Ms. Karen introduced this as part of Math class. She was very curious about it and started solving 3 x 3 sudoku puzzles very quickly. Then we introduced 4 x 4, without any help she was able to finish within 2 mins. Then we challenged her with 6 x 6 tricky puzzles. She takes few breaks in between...but she is finishing in 10 mins. We are extremely happy that Ms. Karen is doing great job in introducing different ways to solve the problems. With this inspiration, we introduced her "Challenging Puzzle Speed Cube Ball, Matching Colors Game", she solves the puzzle in less than 1.30 minutes in whatever the order you shuffle the colors. Ms. Karen is teaching them reading and writing skills. So we introduced Anika with level books to read. She is able to read all by herself Level A and B books. All kudos to Ms. Karen and the staff. We really appreciate your help and support!

She helped to decide what we were going to grow in our vegetable garden (tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, peppers, eggplant, cabbage, and kale), and she helped to plant the veggies and marigolds (to keep the bugs away). She loves to water the plants so they get enough to drink! She also chose the flowers for our pots of annual plants and put the plants in the containers all by herself. She couldn't even wait to change out of her princess dress and tap shoes to start gardening! We are so impressed with how much she knows about gardening. She can identify lambs ear, lilies, peonies, and irises just from their leaves. We are so happy she is learning to care for plants and to take care of the world around her.

Description: I wrote a shape poem about volcanoes. I decided it would be fun to use a volcano shape because the word "volcano" originated from the Greek god of fire, Vulcan, and I enjoy studying Greek mythology. I formed the shape as I wrote the poem and changed some of the word choices so that it created the shape I wanted. After I finished the shape, I was trying to think of a way to improve it and decided to use the highlighting option to make the shape reddish-brown like the color of a volcano. Once I finished that, I thought that it would look cool to have lava, so I changed some of the highlights to red. My teacher really liked it and suggested that I submit it for the contest.

Then, we rolled it flat with a rolling pin, and I made fossils with my dinosaurs and my ponies and my cars. And we made fossils with nature things too. Then, my mommy put my fossils in the oven (mom note - 250 for 2 hours, or until hard and white). My fossils felt really hard! We had to wait for them to cool down. I painted my fossils with my paints until I was all done! I love my fossils.

Description: Ice cube painting. We had been painting a lot outside using regular paint, so we thought we would try using
something different. We found a “recipe” for ice cube painting and we thought we would give it a try. It turned out to be a really fun activity – even if we had to wait a bit for the ice cubes to freeze. It was fun to mix up the water and food coloring, pop them into the freezer, check in on them every few hours, and finally get to take them outside to paint once they were frozen and ready!
Supplies:
- Ice cube tray
- Popsicle sticks
- Food coloring/paint
- Water
Instructions:
- Fill up the ice cube tray with water
- Add a few drops of food coloring or paint to each ice cube opening. We had 2 trays so we made 4 ice
cubes of each color.
- Put a popsicle stick in each cube
- Place ice cube trays in the freezer and let them freeze
- Once frozen, pop the ice cubes out and hold them using the popsicle sticks to paint!

Description: Bird/Squirrel Feeder Ornaments. Each morning, as we are eating breakfast, we always keep an eye out for squirrels running around in our backyard. They’re always digging holes in our mulch and hiding their nuts and goodies! One day, we decided to start leaving nuts and seeds out for the birds and animals. Then we decided to step up our game and make ornaments to hang up!
Supplies:
- 3/4 to 1 cup birdseed
- 1 packet of gelatin (unflavored - we used Knox)
- 1/4 cup boiling water
- Cookie cutters, lightly greased*
- Twine and/or ribbon
- Parchment or waxed paper
Instructions:
- Combine the gelatin and the water in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Keep
stirring until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
- Remove the pan from heat and allow the mixture to cool for one minute.
- Stir in 3/4 cup birdseed, adding extra as needed until all the liquid is absorbed. (You won’t want to add
much more than 1 cup, otherwise there won’t be enough “glue” to bind the birdseed once dried.)
- Place the cookie cutters on a parchment or waxed paper on a baking sheet.
- Fill each ornament halfway with the birdseed mixture. Lay a piece of twine down the length of the
cookie cutter.
- Fill the cookie cutter to the top with remaining birdseed mixture, making sure to pack it down firmly.
- Allow the ornaments to dry for several hours or overnight.
- Once completely dried, gently press the ornaments out of the cookie cutters.
- Hang up and keep an eye out for birds and animals snacking!

Description: I decided to do a biology project because ever since I was little I loved life and science. I looked at three organisms or parts of organisms and made a diagram, a key, and wrote their scientific name and some facts about them. I made sketches of these organisms to improve my art skills. This took a long time, so I hope all of my hard work pays off. I first looked at onion skin, which is something a beginner should look at through their microscope. They have large cells, so they are easy to notice and classify. Next, I looked at a worker bee leg, which I would recommend to someone who is experienced with microscopes and biology. Finally, I looked at water mold through my microscope which I gathered from my fish tank. Water mold is a microscopic protist, so you can only see it using a microscope. This is something I would recommend to the professionals, because water mold is very small and difficult to classify. Overall, I think this was a great project, and I hope it inspires other kids in the future, whether I win this contest or not.

Description: For this contest, I helped out with the hospital with three things. The first thing I created was a sticker. At Desert Springs Hospital, they had a problem where they needed something to give their medical staff to show they had permission to wear masks and something to show that even if they wore a mask, they did not have COVID-19. I designed this sticker. I designed this sticker with a positive mood to show that we’ve overcome many things, and can overcome this. I had a time limit too because this sticker needed to be done as soon as possible to be used by the hospital. It is currently in use and has been used since the day after I designed it. The second thing I designed were posters to thank the medical staff. My mom, the director of radiology who’s also on the front lines, came home and brought up that they were making posters to thank the nurses. I wanted to help, and decided to make posters for every department in the hospital, because, in my opinion, everyone should be thanked. Just like they say in acting, without the ensemble, the main characters are just actors. I feel that way with the hospital. Everyone is an important gear in this machine, and if one gear doesn’t work, the entire thing doesn’t work. To make these posters, I got a list of the departments, and drew a background digitally. I then put text over the backgrounds and printed them out. My posters will be held up next week Wednesday to greet medical staff as the enter the building. I completed 39, and am still working on and improving them. The third thing I completed was a label for a care package that was handed out to medical staff to thank them.

Description: For my project, I decided to make recycled shoes out of cans and bottle tabs. I had an old pair of shoes that were completely ruined with gold and maroon paint all over and were scuffed up. The first step I did to make these shoes were painted with black t-shirt paint. I decided to use a t-shirt printing ink because it is flexible and won't crack. The next step is I went around looking for cans and I washed them out and cut them up and used E6000 glue and epoxy and glued them all over the shoes. I had to use rubber bands and paper clips to give the cans the shape of the shoe when the epoxy was drying. After that, I saved all the tabs and used them as eyelets and then laced with a ribbon from an old dress. I chose to share this project because the fashion industry as a whole is causing a lot of damage to climate change. 21 billion pounds of textiles and fabric goes to waste and put in landforms each year, and 10-15% of clothes go to second-hand stores and I want to get that percentage higher. I think this is a very important cause because if we keep up how much waste there are more fossil fumes that break down the ozone layer and will cause more cancers without that layer. The fashion industry is so diverse but recreating and restructuring old items of clothing can make that 21 billion pounds go down at least a bit.

First, we washed our hands. Then, for all the recipes, we whisked the ingredients together in a bowl, except for the whisked egg white pancakes. For them, we separated the egg yolks from the whites and whisked the egg whites into a meringue, and then folded them into the batter made from the other ingredients in the mixing bowl. We cooked all of the pancakes on a steel griddle on our stove. The fluffy pancakes were good but not my favorite. The whisked egg white pancakes were chewy. The easy pancakes were the best.

Description: I created a picture of the sun, grass, and waves. I like to be outside, so that is why I drew this picture. How I thought to do this was I like nature and I like to draw with oil pastels. With pastels, you can blend and smudge colors. I took a sponge and held it with my hand and I pressed hard on the paper and moved it side to side. I enjoyed drawing this picture because using pastels is very smooth. In my picture, I drew a sky and I drew leaves blowing in the wind. Towards the bottom of the picture, I had waves. In the waves, there were whale tails sticking out and slightly above the sun, I drew a few purple butterflies. My favorite part about this drawing is that I came up with drawing the grass in the front of the picture with all different shades of green. To the right of my picture, I had some green grass with roses scattered all around in it. On the side of my picture, I also drew two small trees. By the trees, I had some birds with very long feathers. I really enjoyed how I drew a thin stream sort of in the middle of my picture. I like how it looks so smooth and how I drew outlines around it so that I could really see where it is. To the right of the stream, I drew a few oranges. The oranges are falling from a tree. The tree reminds me of the orange tree in my backyard. The skins of oranges are always really thick, so I like to make the oranges look very round and thick, just like real oranges. I also had a bunny in my picture. It's one of the only animals I have in my picture, and I like it because it's eating a small carrot and has its eyes closed very tightly. I hope you like my picture.

Description: Save The Earthworms! Cooper and I take a walk every morning to exercise our dog. Cooper started noticing the worms that were often wiggling around in the road and on the sidewalk in the early morning. He also noticed the worms that no longer wiggled. He became very interested in learning about earthworms. We watched videos to learn what they ate, how they lived, and what made them come out of the dirt. Cooper learned that worms were very helpful to keeping plants healthy and helping plants grow. He wanted to
help the worms that became “stranded” and “in danger” by putting them back in soil where they live best. He started by placing worms that we would encounter into the nearest patch of dirt or grass. However, after learning how helpful they were, he has since started taking a cup of soil with him whenever he walks so that he can bring the worms back to our gardens. After relocating the worms in the garden, he goes back to check on them to ensure they have “inched back in the dirt” and are happy again. Cooper has created a “worm friend” habitat in three locations in our yard. We keep the habitat worm friendly by placing apple cores in the soil, keeping the soil moist, and layering on fresh soil frequently. Cooper wanted to spread the word that “earthworms are our friends” and they are not just something that is “slimy and gross”. He wants all of his friends to help earthworms when they see them out on the sidewalk by putting them back on or near soil so they don’t dry out or get stepped on. As he says, “you put them in a cup, then you put them in the plants, because they’re good for plants!”

Description: We have birds that sometimes fly into a large window so we research methods and decided to paint the window as a family to help the birds. We learned birds see trees reflection and get confused. But you can paint the window with washable paint to help them. The children learned how far apart the paint can be for the birds and how two windows were safe for the birds already because of the screens. Both Eve & Lincoln helped design the mural layout. Mom taped designs using a 'stained glass' method the children both could pick sections to paint as they desired. The project in all took two full weeks. When it dried we removed the tape to give the windows a stained glass look. The children wanted a spring theme with pugs since they have grown up with our two pugs. The empty spaces they filled in free hand with paintings of 'dog toys'.

Mix and pour the flour, eggs and milk into the baking pan and place in the oven. Soon become a delicious cake. So I also want to use these things to make a cake for mom on her mother's day.
My family likes eating chocolate, so we decided to make a chocolate cake. Mom prepared a box of chocolate taste of cake mix for us, my little sister is my little assistant, I use scissors to open the box and the packing bag of cake mix, pour them all into the large bowl .
Then, for the first time, I cracked the eggs into the bowl by myself, cut a butter block with a knife, mix yogurt with milk, poured them into a large bowl, then began to beat them with the electric egg beater, and finally poured them into a baking pan, scraped them clean with a silicone spatula and sent them into the oven!
Recipe:
- Cake Mix
- 3/4 Cup Water/Milk+Yogurt
- 7 Tablespoons Softened Butter
- 3 Large Eggs
- Bake at 350°F. Two 8-Inch Pans 30min
Usually, it was like magic to watch my mother do it, but It's hard to do it by myself. Like I am barely hold electric egg beater because it is running so fast, it feels like if I can't just hold it, it's going to fly. But it was fun, we made two super delicious chocolate cakes. They are really good! This is the First Cake I made. I love to make cakes. Happy mother's day!

I helped clean up our earth. It was on the earth’s birthday (Earth Day) and Miss Kristi gave me a garbage bag and gloves so that my hands wouldn’t get dirty. I brought my baby, Bruno, but he didn’t help because he’s too small and he would probably eat the garbage if he picked it up.
To clean up, we did a super long walk by our house. We went up and down the big hills and looked for any litter. Sometimes I had to pull it really hard because it was stuck. We found so much litter that we filled our garbage bag and put some extra in our wagon.
I wanted to pick up garbage so that our earth would stay clean. It’s important to clean up the garbage on our earth because the earth is where we live. It is naughty to litter, but sometimes it’s an accident like when garbage flies out of a garbage truck. None of it was my garbage, but I still wanted to clean it up. I wanted to share this because it made me feel happy and because I was being a good example to other kids and grown ups, too.

Lille loves to work in the garden with her family and so she has really been enjoying these lessons and we even do them in our garden. Her favorite project that we have done through distance learning with Ms. Elena was making a flower painting using an empty water bottle. Ms. Elena worked with Lille through Zoom and showed her how to paint the stems, then the leaves and eventually using the base of the water bottle to stamp the petals of the flowers. Lille was very focused during the entire lesson and so proud of what she created and immediately asked to hang it on the refrigerator. I think the painting is lovely but I think what is most impressive about this project is that Ms. Elena and Lille who just turned 3 were able to do this project through Zoom. Life has changed so much in the last few months and all of us have had to adapt to new ways of doing things and I think this is an example of not only Ms. Elena and Lille adapting but thriving under challenging circumstances.

Description: Constellation Embroidery One of the weekly themes of the online learning program was the solar system, after which we did some serious star gazing over the weekend and continued to learn at home about star constellations during the following week. Her zodiac sign is Gemini, so I explained that it meant twins and so the first thing she did was make a drawing of twins. Next, I showed her the embroidery materials and she got started. We tried to let her do as much as possible by herself and she didn't even prick herself with the pointy needle and used it carefully. She helped fit the fabric onto the embroidery hoop, then she drew Gemini with chalk onto the fabric and started stitching. She didn't follow the lines, but that's ok. The purpose was to introduce her to a new technique and she skillfully embroidered her first piece!

Mom: Parker, what do you want to tell people about our garden you planted (he planted the entire thing!).
Parker: Oh, that we are making parsley, basil and carrots…LOTS of carrots. And Strawberries – they are already growing;
and Hudson PICKED a FLOWER mom. Oh…no that is NOT good.
Mom: What are we going to make with all these things?
Parker: Oh, we’re going to eat them ALL up! They are going to be so good...or I have a GREAT idea, we can make a recipe
out of those vegetables and spices and it will be SO EXTRA DELICIOUS!
Mom: Sounds good, bud. How do we take care of our garden?
Parker: Oh mom, you know it. But I’ll tell ya – we say “Good morning garden. Grow, grow, grow!”, we have to talk to it
to help it grow. And we have to make sure Hudson doesn’t pick the flowers, oh gosh that’s just terrible! I’ll show him
how – I won’t pick your garden flowers anymore mama, promise. That will help him to know not to pick the flowers on
our strawberries…OH! and sun and water too mom, like teacher China taught us.

All he said I could help with is turning the pieces over. From there Colin put all the straight edge pieces in one pile and all the non-straight edge pieces in another pile. Once he created his frame of the puzzle he started putting the same colored pieces together. Colin completed the puzzle in approximately 45 mins. In his classes, at the time, Colin was learning about the 7 continents. So the puzzle has been left out since as a learning tool..

Next we painted a toilet paper roll with acrylics to make the chrysalis. Then we used dot markers to decorate coffee filters that we took outside and sprayed with a water bottle to make the wings. (Unknown to the littles, their beautiful creations flew far away so Mommy quickly made some more. Whoops!) Using tissue paper, we closed the caterpillar inside the chrysalis and hung them on a branch. Many days later, they came out of their chrysalis as butterflies! It was amazing! Description: Rainbow Sun-catchers! (transcribed by Isabella’s mom) I made a sun cacher. I used materials from our art supplies storage, things that we use to make our art activities and creations at home daily.
Some of the materials I used are:
- Tissue paper of different colors that my mom recycles when we receive gifts from our family
- Contact paper
- Scissors
- Tape
- A small piece of rope to hang and
- A wooden hoop to secure the sun archer
First I tear off small pieces of the tissue paper in different colors, my little brother helped me. I had a lot of fun doing it. My Dad help me make a circle in the contact paper and put in the table with the sticky side up. I put some tape in the corners of the paper to hold in place. I start placing the tissue paper in a colorful rainbow pattern, making it look beautiful. My mom helped me cover it with another sheet of contact paper and also placed it in the wooden hoop. I trimmed the edges very carefully with my scissor and put a small piece of rope to hang my suncatcher. I chose to share this Rainbow Suncatcher because I enjoy making art pieces, and rainbow colors are my favorites, when I place the suncatcher in my window, I enjoy looking at the beautiful colors through my suncatcher inside and outside!. Everyday or every other day I get new ideas about projects I want to create. I am very proud that I did this project and the most important, I spent a wonderful time doing it with my family.

Description: This is my rendition of The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. To the right, you see the painting by van Gogh for comparison with a picture of me creating my masterpiece below it. I was inspired by this painting because of the many starry nights I have seen in such my short life. You see, even when I was in my mommy’s belly, I didn’t like to sleep at night, tossing and turning while captivated by the bright stars in the night sky. If I was lucky, I would even get to see a shooting star and was told to make a wish. While I think my parents’ wish initially came true and involved me sleeping more at night, my wish came true when I turned three months old and started attending daycare at Creative Child Learning Center in Davie, FL. I soon made many friends and was placed in the infant room with a special group of teachers who understood you are never too young for artwork. I included a couple pictures from my earlier work so you can see how much my teachers taught me and helped me grow in my skills. Ms. Mayra, Marilu, and Ana Maria come to work every day with a smile on their face, are patient with me when I’m having a tough time, and always encourage me to try my best; the three ingredients that shaped me into the fun, silly, smart, strong, and cute little man I am today. Thank you to my teachers and Creative Child Learning Center for your dedication to my development even during this difficult time. May you all think of me the next time you look up into the night sky and all your wishes come true when you see that shooting star.

Description: One day, I danced and hurt my foot on the sharp corner of the bed. I was so scared and worried. My mom got my old socks I used when I was a baby to wrap the sharp corner. I wanted to keep one so I asked my mom. I used it to make a puppet.
First, I cut a small cardboard and folded in the middle. I put it inside the sock so my puppet can open its mouth. Then I cut a small pink paper and drew a purple line in the middle to make a tongue. I taped it in the puppet mouth.
Next I glued the googly eyes on her head. I used very big googly eyes because they looked cute. Then I started to make a bow for her. I cut it from a blue paper, but it looked bad. The 2nd bow was drawn on the paper before I cut it. I was medium bad. My third bow was very good after I drew it slowly and cut it slowly.
Last I named my puppet and her name is “Cutie Eye”. She likes to pretend she is old and young. When she is old, she is slow and quiet. When she is young, she makes a lot of exciting sounds.
I also made a show box for her. My mom helped me to cut the box. I decorated it with marker and blue paper tape. About the remote control, the on/off switch is on the top and the triangle sign on the bottom is for battery change.
I made a puppet friend for her to do a picnic. I drew spring flowers and a ladybug as the background. The friends like to have tea, mac and cheese, breadstick, cookie, and ice cream. I made the tea pot and tea cups from toilet paper rolls. I added the handles with the tape, but the tape was not recycle. The tea pot cap was difficult to find and I tried 4 caps and the 5th cap fit! Their food was cut from our empty food boxes.
I like to do puppet show for my mom and dad after dinner because I want to test to see how it works. It works great! Because of the virus, I can’t go to my friends’ house, or they can’t come to my house to play. So I called them instead from my iPad. I did the puppet show for them, and we had lots of fun. I started with a small sock, and after working for many days, I had a big show for my friends. I hope you like it!
Here is the recycled materials I used:
- A small sock
- Cardboards
- Blue packing foam
- Toilet paper rolls
- Gogo squeeze yogurt pouch
- Starbucks bottled coffee cap
- Plastic pull-ring
- Keurig tea k-cup
- Empty boxes from ice creams, Honey Maid, Nutella breadsticks, Kraft mac and cheese

Description: My project was to build a trebuchet. I wanted to test how far it can shoot a golf sized ball. I started by watching several videos on YouTube to understand how trebuchet works. By the way, I found out a few exciting facts e.g., in the Middle Ages, catapults were not used to tear down castle walls but rather on against the knight on the battlefield. Building a catapult is not an easy matter. First, I prepared the design and calculated all the dimensions. The long arm needed to be 4x longer than the short one. The sling was about the long arm length. Next, I made a cardboard 1:2 scale prototype to check if all the dimensions match and whether the construction will be stable. I cut out trebuchet's template elements and traced them on a foam core board. I cut all the parts and glued the structure with a hot glue gun. I made sure that the construction is firm and stable. The ball weighed 6 grams, and I prepared a 900 grams counter-weight using a collection of my marbles. That's 150x more than the payload I wanted to launch. A pouch was made of black industrial tape. The longest shot was 20' 3".
We shot a video showing the whole project: https://youtu.be/NVuOxVEROaE

This film took me two months two complete, I worked almost every day except for Saturdays and some Sundays on it. I would say this is the biggest project, not only academically, but the biggest project in my life I have created. Not only did I learn tons of things on green screens and how to film, but I have at the same time, studied one of the most historical battles of our timeline. I had lots of fun creating this film, and have taken most pride in this project more than any other.

Description: I created a project that was assigned by my Art teacher Mr Nathan. It is Still Art and I looked around my home to find. I selected a vase with beautiful yellow flowers and asked my mom if I could draw it for my school assignment and she said of course and so I did. I have been passionate about Art since I was a toddler. My mom is an Art student herself and a tour guide docent at a Museum. I always liked for her to take me there when she goes. I like exploring different mediums but my favorite is charcoal and pencil. Black and white are opposites attracted by simplicity. I am learning as I go but I have been drawing and sketching stories about My little Pony -which are my favorite. For 2 years now and people say I am very good. I hope that one day my Mom can introduce me to My little Pony makers and I can work for them in the studios creating Art Animation projects or making children's animated story books. In the meantime; I also wanted to share some of these with you to show you my passion but I am submitting the work that was assigned for school. Which is the yellow flowers in vase. Description: I am building and creating a sustainable garden for our future in my mom's front yard. Planting seeds was one of my class assignment projects and I really enjoyed this activity because I get to breath fresh air while working in the outdoors. Plus; I also learned some survival skills while fortifying my body strong in relation with this work. I was assisted by my neighbor in guidance with cooperation. He showed me how to handle certain tools because they were heavy and if careless, they could also pose as dangerous and so one must be really careful at all times. Okay, so after exploring the area I pick a location to dig some holes. Then; I assisted the ground by adding some rich nutrients to it -before planting the seeds. It was a lot of work and I carried heavy bags of worm poop to cover the area afterwards. At first I though yuck! But then my neighbor explained that worm poop was compost and he talked about all of the healthy properties that it adds onto the soil and then I said: Cool! "Let's do this!" And so I planted hot pepper seeds- to scare away the squirrels from the Corn -which is my mother's favorite. And then; a big pineapple for me and my sister to care and watch grow. "I can't wait to eat of its yummy Fruit!"/"That will be One day not too far away...I hope!" I also hope that this helps other people to see and do the same. If everyone builds their your own sustainable gardens then we will have plenty of food if another virus like Covid-19 comes over and supermarkets are closed. The earth is our friend and we must care for it well. Thank You and I hope you like my entry. I am a 7 year old 2nd grader and my name is: Thomas Jake Ripple-Gutierrez

Description: The contraption that I made can be considered a mini potato cannon, which can fire a QTIP or anything that you can manage to stuff in the barrel at an extreme speed. It works by having an ignitor, in this case a barbecue ignitor that creates a spark in the chamber. The chamber holds a flammable liquid or gas, for me I used a substance call Scotchgard meant to protect fabric. Then when you activate the trigger mechanism the spark comes in contact with the flammable vapor, it creates a minute flame that can send any projectile flying that you put on the receiving end of the barrel. The process of making this invention took probably two hours, but that is excluding the numerous hours I spent experimenting with it trying to get to work. I decided to share this entry because I find it cool and I hope that it can inspire another person in quarantine to test their limits in this innovative world. I also hope that my contraption may bring viewers a smile.

Description: I created a time-lapse video of me drawing and coloring a picture. This was my first time I have created a video of myself drawing. Since I have been home so much lately, I used some of my extra time to teach myself how to make and edit videos. For this project I also taught myself how to use time-lapse and add music. I was inspired to create the video as part of an online talent show that my teacher arranged for us to do over Zoom. The assignment was to showcase one of our talents in a way that we could share virtually with our classmates in 2 minutes or less. I have spent years doing art classes and have always enjoyed being creative. Drawing is a fun way to express myself. In our current situation where I am stuck inside a lot, I find drawing especially calming and fun.

Description: I'm a HUGE Scooby Doo fan and I created this Upcycle project with a pulley system to utilize during playtime. One of my favorite characters from the TV show is Fred and he's famous for creating traps to capture villains. I also wanted to design my own trap using recycled items at my home. To create my Upcycled trap, I used the following: 3 paper towel rolls for the structure, a box for the base, string for the pully, an old light bulb box for the trap, and Easter candy plastic roll as the wheel. The paper towel rolls were colored to resemble trees and an X marks the spot to catch the "bad guy." The pulley system lowers the cage onto the villain....and once again, Scooby Doo and his friends solve the mystery! During the Covid-19 pandemic, I'm unable to visit the toy store. Instead of purchase a new toy, I decided to create my own with items around the house. My upcycle project also includes the pulley system which I learned about during STEM lessons at Cranium.
